Obituary

Ada L. (“Patsie”) Humphrey, 92, of Columbus, GA died Monday, May 8, 2023, surrounded by loving family members at her residence.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2023 at Fort Moore Main Post Cemetery with a procession leaving from the funeral home at 12:30 PM. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Patsie was born August 31, 1930, in Riverview, AL to the late William Oscar Williams and Mattie Westmoreland Bennett Williams. After completing Business School in Birmingham, AL, she married the love of her life, Floyd Vernon Humphrey, and began her career as an Army spouse – the hardest job in the Army. Together they raised a family and built a home that made all feel welcome; there was always room for more at the table with food and wisdom enough for all.

She cherished moments playing games with her children, grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren. She remained active throughout her life, traveling, playing cards and games, line dancing, crafting, reading the paper daily and staying up to date on current events, helping neighbors as needed, and cooking for friends and family. She was tenacious, had a strong moral compass and pushed everyone to be the best version of themselves.

After 43 years of marriage, Patsie was preceded in death by her husband, CSM (USA Ret.) Floyd V. Humphrey.  Her parents, three brothers, and seven of her eight sisters also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister May Jones; daughter, Patricia Lorena Humphrey, sons, Vernon Floyd Humphrey (Brenda), Christopher Michael Humphrey (Kathrin),seven grandchildren, Vernon F. Humphrey Jr. (Cassie), Sean M.Humphrey (Brandi), Amanda R. Bloodworth (Adam), Lindsey M. Marshall, Casidy E. Cnossen (Roger), Sebastian P. Humphrey, and Mathias P. Humphrey; eleven great-grandchildren and a great number of loving nieces, nephews, and family friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions In Memory of Ada L. (“Patsie”) Humphrey to Columbus Hospice’s General Donation/Greatest Need campaign (https://www.columbushospice.com/greatestneed) would be fitting to honor her spirit of strength and compassion.
