Aside from his family, Bob’s greatest devotions were to his church, yard, and the United States Army. Bob served the US Army for 30 years and participated in Operation Just Cause, 1989. Bob was proud to be an Army Ranger. His love for the military has carried on to five children and two grandchildren. His daughter is a proud graduate of Louisiana State University. Bob loved working in the flower garden, yard and decorating for every season and holiday. He volunteered his time to the church by planting flowers, Wednesday night dinners and the Welcoming Committees. He did his best as a soldier, man of God, husband, father, Grandpa (Pawpaw) and Great Papaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. West and Joanne Dillahay.
His memory will be carried on by his wife of 42 years, Elsie O. Youngblood West, along with his 6 children: Brian A. West Medaris (Diane), NC; William J. West Medaris (Martha), GA; Chad C. West Campbell, GA; Stephen D. West Medaris, TX; Derric Threatt (Rala), NC; Christie West Hughes (Damon), SC., sibling David L. West (Tina) of LA. and 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Some of the grandkids affectionately called him, “Oh Great One“.
His favorite Bible verse was “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in me, Oh Lord.”, Psalm 51:10
