Ed Cooling died Friday, November 12, 2021 at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Albany Georgia.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Black Cooling, his father Carl Edward Cooling and his granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth Sheffield.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie Anne Page Cooling, Brother, John A. Cooling (Tricia), daughter, Kimberly Cooling Houck, Son, William E. Cooling and sons, William Bradford Sheffield and Thurston Page Sheffield (Linda). Brothers and Sister in Law, Lewis and Tam Yarbrough and Pete Page (Vickie).
He was the “proudest of proud” Grandfather to Eight beautiful grandchildren: Drake and Boden Houck, Kale and Pace Cooling, Luke and Branche Sheffield, Chanler Landers (Brian) and Caroline Sheffield. He has three great grandchildren: Brayleigh Anne Landers, Waverleigh Anne Butler and Noah Sheffield.
He also leaves behind his “little brown bomber”, Benedict.
Ed grew up on the Tarva and Nilo plantations in Albany, Georgia where his father was manager. It was there that he became a lover of nature and an avid outdoorsman. He loved bird hunting with his family and friends.
He graduated from Albany High School and attended Middle Georgia State University in Macon.
During his years as a young father in Albany he was a boy scout troop leader, a little league coach and umpire. He was always active in his community and served as a past president of the Albany Sertoma Club.
Ed’s spiritual life was very important to him and he served many years as a vestry member and lay reader for his church families at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Albany, St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Smiths Station Alabama and St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Hamilton, Georgia.
At the time of his death Ed was an account executive with Armstrong Relocation Company
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907 with his long time and faithful friend, Frank Daunt, officiating.
