Derek Rodney Barron

Derek Rodney Barron, 51, of Columbus, GA passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9 2024.

A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00PM Thursday, April 11,2024 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Friday, April 12, 2024 at Second Baptist Church, 2800 2nd Ave, Columbus, GA 31904, With Pastor Don Wilhite, and Mike Reeves officiating. Internment will be held 2:00PM Friday, April 12, following the funeral service at Valley Grove Baptist Church, 1372 Atwater Rd, Thomaston, GA 30286.

Derek was born January 18, 1973, in Thomaston, GA to the George Barron and Jane Mathis. He graduated from Upson High School in 1991, and graduated from Columbus State University in 1997 with a degree in History. He worked for AFLAC for over 22 years, was a member of 2nd Baptist church in Columbus, GA, was loved by all of his coworkers and church family.

Derek loved going to train shows all over the state; especially in Folkston and loved watching the trains go up and down the tracks. He loved having a Mustang, and could tell you how to get anywhere in the state of Georgia. He could tell you anything and everything about everyone’s family that he knew.

Derek was preceded in death by his father, George Barron, grandparents, Gordon and Heittie Barron, grandparents, Clifford and Opal Bradshaw,

He is survived by loving mother, Jane Mathis (Griffin);  brother, Donnie (Stacey) Barron, nieces, Caitlyn Barron, Isabella Barron, Piper Brown, Marisa Tyson, and all of Thomaston, GA, aunts and uncles, Robert and La Rosa Edwards of FL, Wynell Maxwell of Phenix City, AL, cousins, Jason (Shelley) Edwards, Taylor Edwards, Tyler Edwards all of Macon, GA, Jeff (Kim) Maxwell, Brittani (Brian) Rea, Penelope Rea, Kelley (Matt) Sommer Field all of Phenix City, AL, Meri (Scott) Parker, Haley Parker and Sydney Parker all of Thomaston, GA.
