Freddie Hughes Obituary

Retired Sgt. Freddie Woods Hughes, 76 of Columbus died Friday, January 24, 2020 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. A private interment will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery and visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.

Freddie was born May 5, 1943 in Fayette, Alabama son of the late Foster D. Hughes and Zellia Foster Hughes. He retired after 21 years in United States Army later working as a mechanic in the Columbus area. He loves to fish, was a member of the Elks Club and member of Eastern Valley Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his brother, James Hughes and brother-in-law, James Richard Donaldson.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sam Hughes of Columbus, Ga., son Freddie Hughes Jr. (Mija) of Suwanee Ga., sister Heather Donaldson of Cullman Al. and a grandson Noah Hughes of Suwanee Ga.
