George W. Ratliff

George W. “Bill “Ratliff, 93, of Midland, GA went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2022. 

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Morningside Baptist Church, 6065 Morningside Drive, Columbus, GA with Elder Butch Wheeler officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Bill was born to Carl and Cynthia Ratliff on December 6, 1928 in Winding Gulf, West Virginia.  

Bill chose a career in the Army, serving from 1947-1977.  He retired as a Command Sergeant Major after serving 30 years.  Bill was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  He was highly decorated during his military career, receiving a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with “V” for valor and heroism, among other awards.

Bill was a member of Morningside Baptist Church for 49 years.  There he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.  Bill enjoyed fishing and train excursions.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Leona Ratliff and son Billy Ratliff.  Survivors include his son, Jimmy Ratliff and wife Sheila of Albany, GA, daughters, Jeannie Hogland and husband Glen of Augusta, GA, Pamela Davis and husband Wayne of Columbus, GA; 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
