Gordon Ellis Obituary

Gordon Hargett Ellis, 77, of Hamilton, GA died Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Mountain Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Culpepper officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in an outdoor venue at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Gordon was born June, 24, 1944 in Columbus, GA to the late Robert Barrett Ellis and Johnny Faye Hargett Ellis. He worked at Norfolk Southern as a train conductor and retired after 34 plus years. He went to Harris Count High School where he met the love of his life, Tinia Ellis, graduated from Columbus State University and served in the United States Navy for 4 years.  He was a lifelong member of Mountain Hill Baptist Church, where he loved serving the Lord, singing and became a Deacon. He loved to hunt and spend time with his family and friends. Gordon was a Man of God. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Barrett “Barry” Ellis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Tinia Ellis of Hamilton, GA, children; Charles Ellis (Samantha) of Columbus, GA, Laura Ellis Williams (Mike) of Smiths Station, AL, grandchildren, Matthew Ellis, Nathan Ellis, Ephraim Ellis, Elizabeth Williams Cowhick (Dylan), Garrett Williams, Ashlyn Williams, great-grandchild, Kerrington Grace Cowhick, brother, Dale Ellis, sisters; Roslyn McMath, Jane Williams, Susan Smith, Robin Ellis, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
