James "Jim" Bryant III Obituary

James “Jim” Roy Bryant III, age 62, of Columbus Georgia passed away on Thursday January 14, 2021.  Jim was born on January 21, 1958 in Columbus, Georgia to Betty Ann Bryant and James R. Bryant, Jr.  Jim graduated from Troy University with an Associates Degree in Fire Science. Jim began his career as a paramedic before pursuing a successful career as a firefighter at Columbus Fire & EMS in Columbus, Georgia. Jim completed twenty-four years of service with Columbus Fire & EMS, rising through the ranks, and retired several years after achieving the rank of Battalion Chief over Fire Battalion 3. In his spare time, Jim worked as a self-employed and self-taught HVAC technician. He exhibited a proactive work ethic prepared for the tasks ahead and was always willing to help anyone. He was everyone’s handyman.

Jim enjoyed competition shooting matches where he would compete with a wide range of accomplished shooters to achieve the highest level in marksmanship. He competed in these matches throughout the southeast region and earned numerous first place awards. His other interests were anything that involved the outdoors such as hunting, camping, fishing, and golfing. Jim experienced the most enjoyment when it involved being able to spend his time with his daughter and grandchildren. Jim and his grandchildren, they played as children should, without a care in the world. He loved taking them on adventures, which to the children, meant something as simple as making trips to stores or traversing landscapes of the wilderness. To Jim, these children were his world.

Jim never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. Whether at a ball game or family gathering, his distinct voice was always recognizable in a crowd. Jim’s selfless character knew no bounds, he always had a smile on his face, and possessed the unique quality of having a heart large enough for everyone. This was a great man who will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Ann Bryant and his father James R. Bryant, Jr.  He is survived by; daughter, Mallory (Drew) Osbon; grandchildren, Kenzleigh Grace Osbon and Kylor Cole Osbon; mother of his daughter, Brenda Bryant; sisters, Kimberly (Kenneth) Turnbull, Dell (Charlie) King, Bea (Buddy) Miller; nieces, Kimberly Turnbull, Kristen (Nick) Burnham, Caroline King; great nieces, Palmer Burnham and Payton Burnham.
