John Paul Starkey

Retired Columbus Police Captain John Paul Starkey 74, of Columbus, Georgia died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown.

Graveside services with Columbus Police Department Honors will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 08, 2021 in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, we encourage everyone to make the best decisions to remain safe. If anyone wishes to attend the graveside service, please remember to remain 6 feet apart from those not in your household and wear personal protective equipment.  

Capt. Starkey was born September 14, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio son of the late John B. and Mary Donathan Starkey. John retired after 34 years with the Columbus Police Department and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and loved traveling with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Other than his parents, Captain Starkey was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, June Elaine Starkey.

Survivors include his daughter Jessica Garrett Allport and her husband Jimmy of Shiloh, Georgia, 4 grandchildren, Weston Garrett, Brooks Butler, Beau Butler and Shelby Allport.
