Lee Harold Hartford, 85, of Columbus, Georgia died Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family held a private Celebration of Life Service at St. Mark United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank everyone for all of their prayers and support during this difficult time. They would like to thank all of his caregivers at Orchard View Nursing Home who took such wonderful care of him for the past 3 years.
Lee was born June 8, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Harold Howie and Ethel Henderson Hartford. He was a retired independent insurance agent in the southeast and panhandle of Florida. He was known an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, Hawks and Falcons. He always enjoyed listening to Larry Munson during the football games and was a catalog of sports stats. Hisclothing choices were always focused on the Big G and the Bulldog!
His delight was his grandchildren and children. He enjoyed attending sporting events, concerts and any activity where he could proclaim, to anyone who would listen,which child belong to him. Mr. Hartford loved people and he never met a stranger. Whether you were his waitress at IHOP, worked out at the activity center, or were in line with him at Wal-Mart, he wanted to know you and your story and for you to know his.
Mr. Hartford was a member of the Sanctified Church of Christ for 35 years where he was a greeter/usher, board member and Sunday School Teacher. He also was an officer of Men with Vision Division of World Gospel Mission. Later in life, Mr. Hartford was a 20 year member St. Mark United Methodist Church, usher/greeter, member of the scholarship committee, Fellowship Sunday School Class, active in missions fundraising, and was a founding member and faithful attendee of the Tuesday Morning prayer breakfast group. He alsoserved with Gideons International.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy Blackburn Hartford of Columbus, Ga., daughters, Natalie Hartford Kelly and her husband Rick of Columbus, Ga., Alicia Hartford Vinson and her husband Tim of Hamilton, Ga., sister, Joyce Hopping of Washington, DC., grandchildren, Zach Vinson (Christina), Julianne Kelly, Richard Kelly, Bryce Vinson and his great-grandchild Ella Kate Vinson.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Seminary Fund.
