He also proudly served his community as a member of the Cataula Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was a member of Britt David Baptist Church.
He and his teammates celebrated their winning of the 1955 Kentucky State Football Championship at the annual "Gathering of the Hounds”. He was inducted into Corbin High School Hall of Fame on October 20, 1983 and his football jersey was retired on August 26, 2005. Some of his closest friends were made from that team and remained until his passing. He was also named an Honorable Kentucky Colonel on June 1, 1987 by the governor of Kentucky.
He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends but will live on forever in their hearts.
