Miss Marianne Baxter, 82, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, September 9, 2023 at The Oaks Grove Park.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Marianne was born September 8, 1941 in Moultrie, GA to the late Jessie Lloyd Baxter and Allie Seay Baxter. She graduated from Moultrie High School; attended the University of Georgia; graduated from Valdosta State College; and received her master’s degree from Columbus University. Marianne was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority; a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church; and a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She taught Language Arts for most of her forty-nine year teaching career at Daniel Jr. High and Double Churches Middle School in Columbus, GA before retiring.
Marianne is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Charles Isom, Jr. (Susan) of Marietta, GA; Mrs. John Ulmer (Kay) and husband John of Statham, GA; her brother, Bobby Baxter (Kim) of Moultrie, GA, aunt, Betty Baxter Walters of Wilmington, NC, nieces, Mrs. S.L. Mullin (Suzanne) and husband S.L. of Columbus, GA; Elizabeth Isom of Gulf Port, FL; Karen Isom of Marietta, GA; Emily Ulmer of Marietta, GA; Elizabeth Ulmer of Denver, CO; Kathryn Mears (Chris) of Marietta, GA; Jessie Baxter of Moultrie, GA; nephews, Michael Ragan (Erinn) of Bel Air, MD; Elliott Ulmer (Stacy) of Marietta, GA; Taylor Mix (Rachael) of McDonough, GA; Corey Mix (Marley) of Nashville, TN; numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Marianne was also the Godmother of Mrs. Erica Sheehan Cooper of New York, NY.
