Patricia Pitts Obituary

Patricia Goodwin Pitts, 81 of Columbus, Georgia died July 7, 2022 at St. Francis hospital with her loving daughter by her side. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, with Pastor Derrick Shields officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.

Patricia was born in 1941 in Roswell Georgia where she lived and met the love of her life, Forrest Mabry Pitts of Marietta, Georgia.  They shared a life together for 52 years before his passing. They moved to Columbus early in their marriage to raise their family.  Patricia was a wonderful wife and stay at home mother.  She was a mother to all of the neighborhood kids who named her “Sweets” and that name stuck with her the rest of her life.

After becoming empty nesters, Forrest, a real estate investor, bought her a building and helped her start a small business, World Famous Hotdogs.  She quickly became known in the community as the hotdog lady.  She worked there until retirement.  She was well known as a fabulous cook and showed her love through cooking for others.

She had two grandsons, Thack and Sam Cargill of which she loved dearly and they loved her keeping her very busy with adventure.  Sweets was very giving to the boys through love and support for both of them and often caught slipping them some mad money.  She gained a beautiful granddaughter in law when Thack recently married Allie in Acworth, Georgia

After Forrest passed, she stayed active with her coffee and lunch groups and looked forward to spending time with them every week.  Her loving son and his wife LeaAnn moved in down the street and continued to be a large part of her life on a daily basis.  Ben had a very special relationship with his mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Pitts and her parents, Guy and Etha Rainwater.  She is survived by her son, James Benjamin Pitts and his wife LeaAnn Pitts, her daughter, Kelly Pitts Cargill, her husband Gillespie Thacker Cargill, Jr. and two grandsons, Gillespie Thacker Cargill III and Samuel Ralston Cargill.

Thank you to Pastor Derrick Shields of Christ Community Church for leading the service.  Sweets was a regular attendee with the Cargills and loved Derrick’s teaching.  Sweets was a follower of Jesus Christ, her love and savior.
