Perry Pate Obituary

Perry Eugene (Gene) Pate was born on June 2, 1937 and passed February 8, 2016.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. David Helms officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
Gene was born to Howard F. and Nellie G. Pate in Columbus, Ga. Gene graduated from Jordan High School with the class of 1956 where he was a member of the Bob Barr Band. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he played the French horn in the Marine Corp ban. While in the military he married his high school sweet heart Janice Dorough whom he was married to for fifty-nine years. After the Marine Corp he returned to Columbus to run his father's buisnesses following his untimely death. Gene then took a position with Burnham Van Lines in Columbus where he worked successfully for nineteen years before buying the local North American Van Lines Agency in 1976. He worked diligently to build the moving business before starting a home building business, Pate Construction, with his brother Donald Pate in 1987. The company creed was to "build homes for those who felt that new home ownership may not be attainable". He was a respected builder in our local community for more than twenty years. While striving to accomplish all of his life goals, he also made the time to be a part of thirteen mission trips to multiple continents around the world with other faithful men from Evangel Temple in Columbus.

Later in life, Gene found great joy in the outdoors. In response to that love, in 1985 he and his wife purchased farm land in Harris County. They then constructed a home and began raising cattle in 1988. Gene pursued this hobby with great joy for many years until retirement. Following retirement, he developed a hobby of wood working in his shop, building many items for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene, daddy, pawpaw loved his family and the Lord above all else and will be greatly missed.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Howard F. Pate, his mother, Nellie G. Pate, his brother, Donald Pate, brother-in-law John Quick, sister, Barbara Knight and grandson, Andrew F. Pate.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Pate, sisters, Sandra Quick and Vicky Wood, brother-in-law, Dough Dorough, sister-in-law, Juanita Pate, children, Suzanne Parker (Randy), Perry Pate Jr. (Tracy) and Sabra Lisle (Terry), and grandchildren Brad Pate (Colleen), Clay Pate (Jamie), Gene Lisle (Shea), Beth Leatherwood (Brett), Jessica Newberry (Marc), Forrest Parker III (Rikeya) and great grandchildren, Hudson, Ella, Tucker, Harper, Sawyer, Lilli, Grady, Deacon, Davis, Kaylee Brooke Allie, Clara and Forrest IV.
