Rubye L. Bruce

Rubye Layfield Bruce 93 of Columbus, Georgia died Saturday, June 05, 2021 at the Columbus Hospice House with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 7, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907 with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 to 1:45 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Pleasant View Church Cemetery 74 Spruce Lane Pitts, Georgia 31072.

Mrs. Bruce was born April 28, 1928 in Wilcox County, Georgia daughter of the late William Jackson Layfield and Elizabeth Johnson Layfield.  She worked 37 years for Bibb Manufacturing Company and 23 years for Patrick’s Press. Mrs. Bruce was an active member Britt David Baptist Church where she participated in Mission Trips, sang in the choir and volunteered with the children’s ministry outreach. In addition to her church activities, Mrs. Bruce volunteered with hospice and enjoyed watching sports.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Thomas “Buddy” Bruce; sister, Louise Vinson; brother, Ralph Layfield; grandchild, Linda Bruce and her great-grandchild Miles Manor.

Survivors include her children, Tommy Lee Bruce of Columbus, Georgia, David Bruce (Janice) of Tocoma, Washington, Mike Bruce (Pamela) of Clarksville, Georgia Terry Bruce of Columbus, Georgia,  11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
