Stephen Perkins Obituary

Stephen Anthony Perkins, 60, passed from this life February 26, 2021 at his residence.  He was born June 21, 1960 in Thomasville to Benjamin Jordan and Harriet Melissa (Stephens) Perkins.

   Steve graduated from Thomasville High School in 1978, where he played trombone in the marching and symphonic bands.  He then pursued studies at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville, where he completed studies for LPN, and Darton College in Albany, where he earned his ADN Degree.

   Steve enjoyed caring for patients and their families as an RN/Charge Nurse in the Medical/Surgical ICU at St. Francis Emory Healthcare in Columbus for the past 12 years.  He previously served as a Forensic Psychiatric Nurse at West Central Georgia Regional Hospital, performed home care nursing at Maxim Healthcare, and served as staff/Charge Nurse in the Surgical/Neuro ICU at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany.

   An avid Braves and Nascar fan, Steve loved to travel and to spend time with his family.  He also loved to work on his home and his truck.  Known for his kindness, dedication, and sense of humor, Steve will be missed by his extended family and colleagues alike.

   He was predeceased by his parents.  Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Vilma Elisa Perkins of Columbus, twin daughters Kimberly Renee Perkins Hostetler and her husband Shane of Columbus, Ohio, and Stephanie Leighann Perkins Mainor and her husband Steven of Leesburg, stepson Miguel Santiago of Acworth, and stepdaughter Ana Maria Boven and her husband Scott of Louisville, Colorado.  He also leaves his adoring grandchildren, David and Caleb Mainor, Annie Grace Hostetler, Samantha and Sawyer Santiago, and Mina Boven.  Also surviving are his brother, James Timothy Perkins and his wife Jeanette of Maricopa, Arizona, and sisters Carol Dawn Perkins Brown and her husband Thomas of Lake Park, and Emily Jane Perkins Funk and her husband James of Thomasville.  He also leaves loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and an aunt.

   Visitation will be held Friday, March 5, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, Georgia.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM.  Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
