William Chilson Obituary

William Linwood Chilson 90, of Columbus, Georgia died peacefully Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at his residence.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907

In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory will be following the recommendations set forth by the Columbus Consolidated Government and Governor Brian Kemp by requiring face coverings and social distancing for those attending the visitation. 

Mr. Chilson was born March 27, 1930 in North Adams, Massachusetts son of the late Charles E. and Florence Billings Chilson. He was a graduated of Drury High School in North Adams Mass. After graduation, Mr. Chilson played minor league baseball for the Boston Braves. Before his Major League career started, Mr. Chilson was drafted into the U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict and retiring as a Sgt. 1st Class. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Regiment and the 101st Airborne Division.

Following his Military career, he worked and retired from Kinnett Dairy’s and the Muscogee County School District as a bus driver. Even after his death, the children he provided transportation too still remember him fondly. He was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Other than his parents, Mr. Chilson was preceded in death by his great-grandchildren Hayden Ward and Ava Break and his wife Marietta Hill Chilson who died Thursday, September 17, 2020.

Survivors include her children; Cynthia Caminiti, Burt Chilson (Marjorie), Kurt Chilson (Angela) all of Columbus, Georgia and Becky Dalton (Ken) of Mauk, Georgia; sister, Linda Davis of North Adams, Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
