Willis "Steve" Graydon, 66, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Advent Hospital in Orlando, FL.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Mike Reeves officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Ret. SGM Graydon was born September 11, 1952 in Montgomery, AL son of the late Willis and Sarah F. Graydon. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Major. During his military career, he achieved the following: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), Army Achievement Medal (5th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Non-commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award) and expert marksmanship qualification badge with rifle bar.
He loved to golf, fish, read and he loved history, but his favorite things were spending time with his family and vacationing at Disney. The best name he was given and most proud of was DA!
Survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte D. Graydon, daughters, Michelle Herring (Lance) and Stacie Reed (Jeff), sister-in-law, Shirley Strickland (Billy), siblings, Gloria Thomas (William D. Thomas, Sr.), Charlotte Hickman (Ron) and James Allen Graydon, grandchildren, Hailey Shuffield (Stephen), Katelyn Graydon, Madisen Johnson, Daulton Reed, Karsyn Reed and Graysen Reed, great-grandchildren, Cambrie Shuffield, Brynlee Shuffield, Nathan Shuffield and Wyatt Graydon, many nieces and nephews, and special nephews, Wayne Smith (Lisa) and David Tharp.
